From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these locations have shut down – about 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, top acts like Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which supports smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also participated, raising more than £100,000 on his recent tour to support 38 local spots across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation supported locations that were dealing with possible closure due to challenges stemming from floods, blazes and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and sound issues.

Other venues received monetary aid in upgrading amenities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted artists and audiences.

"The notion that funds from performances in large arenas supports the smaller venues, where it all starts for artists like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has said.
